Themeday 1

SKaaL & VKZ

How do you turn a financially unviable construction project back into a feasible and manageable one?

During this Themeday, students will take on a realistic case provided by SkaaL and VKZ, focusing on the challenges that arise when a project no longer meets its financial and organisational objectives.

Working in teams, students will develop an integrated plan of approach to get the project back on track. They will analyse the case from a Design & Construction Management perspective, using the GROTIK method to structure their approach around key project aspects such as money, risk, organisation, time, information and quality.

A central part of the challenge is the relationship between design and financial feasibility. Students will be asked to propose potential design adjustments and assess their impact on the project's costs and overall feasibility. The case will focus on two different projects, allowing students to apply their approach to different project contexts.

At the end of the afternoon, each team will present its proposed approach. This provides students with the opportunity to defend their choices, explain the trade-offs they have made and experience the dynamics of a real-world project decision-making process.

The Themeday will be conducted entirely in English and combines analytical thinking, design management, financial reasoning and collaborative problem-solving.
