Quarterly Tips | Q2

09/12/2024

We know that each quarter flies by, and just when we get comfortable with the dynamics of the current one, we're already diving into the next. With that in mind, we're sharing some friendly advice— from students to students —with guidance on the do's and don'ts, study strategies, and general tips for success. This post will focus on Q2 , offering tips specifically for Building Economics , by Thomas Rothschopf and Real Estate Management , by Komal Nayak.

Building Economics

It's important to know that the main focus in BE until Christmas should be on mastering the calculation skills . Until Christmas, it's sufficient to only read the abstracts, so you know a bit what the literature they refer to in the lectures is about. Study the calculation assignments every week to avoid a super stressful study week before the exam. It also helps a lot to work your way through the Excel sheets together with a friend – and it's more fun that way!

After Christmas slowly begin with reading the literature and be a good group partner for the financialization workshop. In the week before the final exam go through all the lecture slides and your lecture notes again and start studying. In terms of time management, the period after Christmas can be a bit tricky in combination with the REM course, so be aware of that.

Real Estate Management

An important practice is to be on top of your workload, possibly even stay ahead if you can - know what your week is going to look like, create schedules and to-do lists so you don't miss anything out.

The challenge with REM readings is not that the language is difficult to understand, since it is relatively simple and not particularly heavy academic reading. The challenge is that there is a lot to read. The best way to go about it is to refer back to tips given during DCM about reading papers,  following these tips:

Regarding the REM case , you have the benefit of not getting graded for your draft submissions, and also weekly feedback from your tutors. Make the most of it - come prepared with questions for the tutoring sessions, ask about each and every little thing you aren't sure about no matter how silly it may seem. In addition, knowing what the next assignment is, what the expectations are for the assignment, will definitely streamline your work process and help create clearer links between the sections of your case report.

We hope these tips for Q2 help you navigate the upcoming exams and deadlines! Stay tuned for more tips in the next quarter!
