Quarterly Tips | Q3

11/02/2025

Another quarter is here, and to help you navigate the weeks ahead, we are sharing insider tips from students who have been through it before. For Q3, Anne Erven will share insights on Urban Development Management, while Peter Baarda will provide tips on Building Law.

Urban Development Management

By familiarizing yourself with these diverse perspectives, you will gain a clearer picture of the overall process. This broader understanding not only helps you see where your role fits into the bigger picture, but also allows you to develop effective strategies in your work (and definitely in the game!).

Engage in conversations with peers to share what you are learning and gain different perspectives. Additionally, keep a small personal ‘journal’ to record your thoughts, findings, and reflections concerning the project and process.

For group work during the course, start by clearly defining each member’s role. Determine who will handle each part of the assignment and ensure everyone understands their responsibilities. Confirm that all team members are aware of the team deadlines. Additionally, maintain regular progress updates within the group to foster accountability and keep the project on track.

Such techniques will help you clear your thoughts and will help you present your ideas more effectively and make a significant impact in your work, and within the group.

Building Law

This course won’t turn you into a Suits-style lawyer, but it will give you a solid foundation in building law. Understanding the rights and obligations of different parties will help you engage in legal discussions in your future work.

There are only two required books, but they are essential. Since this is an open-book exam, not having them will make it almost impossible to make the exam.

During the following weeks, you may encounter some questions that may seem broad or theoretical, especially regarding collaboration contracts. This is intentional, thinking about legal structures abstractly helps you grasp their core principles.

If a question allows for multiple interpretations, structure your answer accordingly. Explain the different possible outcomes based on legal circumstances or alternative provisions. Your answer should always be supported by legal references. If you don’t cite the relevant articles or general conditions, you’re likely missing an important aspect.

We hope these tips for Q3 help you navigate the upcoming weeks! Stay tuned for more tips in the next quarter!
